About Didier Hilhorst

I am currently a graduate student at Interaction Design Institute Ivrea, in Northern Italy. Before that I obtained my MSc degree in Economics at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and started my own company in web consultancy, developement and interface design. My interests have slowly shifted from business to design, applying my knowledge in both fields.

Design Interests

As of late I have been interested in home electronics and how to develop products that interact on an emotional level. Elements of surprise and discovery. Affective computing, using technology to communicate emotion, not exclusively functionality. Braking mental models and rethinking usage, for both digital and physical products or interfaces.

Additionally, I am interested in an investigation to illustrate that a social, emotional and community based approach to design is increasingly becoming a critical success driver for the creation of high-end services, information based offerings and sustainable business development.

General

I play golf, and my design friends usually make fun of it, but it is a perfect game for reflection and concentration. I am a regular snowboarder and enjoy a quiet week in the French alps. I am interested in product design, modern art and comic books. I like cars and in particular convertibles.
