The Man and His Words

It was Jeffrey Zeldman in person who told me that an about page is critical. If you publish you should always be accountable for what you write. You own and are your words and opinions. The same goes for comments by the way. This page will not be like meeting me in person, but maybe we can get close.

Didier Hilhorst

Didier is an economist by trade who fell in love with design along the way. He is currently attending an MSc in Informatics and Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam in The Netherlands. Apart from researching branding, usability and human-computer interaction he likes to put his money where his mouth is and design websites and interfaces that work (most of the time). Didier enjoys a dinner among friends, extremely fast cars and a quiet sunday morning round of golf.

In September he will join other students at the highly respected and acclaimed Interaction Design Institute Ivrea in Italy to discover more about interaction design and design for high technology products. Hopefully applying his skills in both design and business to become a forward thinker in the industry.

If your thirst for information remains unquenched, check out Didier's recent interview by SkinnyJ's Justin Goodlett. You may freely contact Didier to invite him for a drink, or alternatively tell him what's on your mind. Alternatively you can always download my resumé for official stuff.

I have seen your name before

Yes, that is possible. I have done a few things from which you may remember my name. I do write a column for Digital Web on occasion (my current schedule is pretty busy, unfortunately) and was in part responsible for their latest redesign. I also produced a CSS Zen Garden entry back in 2003 (which is still being copied.) also known as Release One.

I Begin With an Idea

I Begin With an Idea is a portfolio of sorts. It contains a lot of information about my professional and educational background, as well as more personal information. If you want to know about everything there is to know about me I suggest you visit the that web site and browse its content. The web site will likely not be updated in the future. I Begin With an Idea received a Web Standards Award in June 2004.

About the name “nundroo”

Back in 2000 I was looking for a domain name to experiment with. Being a bit of a typography geek I started to test with different fonts, letter placements and combinations. I also wanted a fairly short name that was easy to remember and would not be some sort of profanity in another language. I eventually settled for “nundroo” because of the individual letters and the double “o.” So, the name was created from scratch, did not mean anything (as far as I knew) and did not sound incredibly weird.

After registering the name (in 2001) I found out that “nundroo” is a small village somewhere in South Australia. Serendipity! I was baffled, but think it is rather nice. “Nundroo is located 78 kilometres from Penong to the east, and 51 kilometres from Yalata to the West. In the 1860s the Nundroo area was settled by pioneering sheep graziers.” If you are interested you can read more about the village named Nundroo.
